About the job

As a Maintenance Engineering Officer, your responsibility will include:

  • Design, establish and improve maintenance strategies, procedures, policies and methods
  • Fit new parts and make sure equipment is working correctly
  • Liaise with departments, and other maintenance and production colleagues
  • Arrange specialist procurement of fixtures, fittings or components and obtain any specialized components or fixtures needed to make repairs.
  • Write maintenance strategies to help with installation and commissioning guidelines
  • Ensure there is continuous cover of the machinery and equipment in case of breakdowns.
  • Carry out repairs on factory machineries, utility and facility equipment’s. This may include welding, plumbing, electrical repairs and rewiring, and minor carpentry work.
  • Control maintenance tools, stores and equipment. Maintain and manage stocks of supplies, parts and equipment.
  • Managing the maintenance cost by ensuring all vendor related invoice are vetted, bargained and recorded.
  • Carry out inspections on vendor jobs and ensure quality and accountability of contract terms 
  • Timely response to work orders to reduce machine downtime. Respond to emergencies i.e. unplanned problems and ensure safety measures are in place before carrying out remedial activities.
  • Read work orders to determine the type of maintenance required ie Preventive, Corrective and Breakdown Maintenance.
  • Carry out repair maintenance on facility (lighting, ACs, Sockets, pumps, water system and Distribution box, etc), Factory (finishing tables, robing machines, sealing machines), Utility (boilers, generators, Compressors, etc) equipment.
  • Perform timed Facility, factory and Utility tours. Check to determine machine running conditions and inform on possible leaks, noise, overheating, burning or any abnormality.
  • Improve and maintain machine records for preventive, breakdown and corrective maintenance across board (factory, utility and facilities).
  • Perform 5S operation during service delivery and after every maintenance job done. Perform same at the workshop, office and storage.
  • Replace, empty, or replenish machine and equipment containers such as diesel tanks, gas cylinders etc
  • Be proactive to come up with suggestions or ideas on how to improve service delivery of the Maintenance Engineering team.
  • Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage.
  • Ensure maximum adherence to checklist. Fill out checklist and effectiveness.
  • Assist in planning team assigned tasks and ensure efforts are coordinated during execution. Supervise all technician assigned duties and ensure details are captured and corrected if necessary.
  • Implement best safety at all times in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Note: There will be added responsibilities as the need arises. 

Education and Work Experience requirement

  • A Minimum of HND/B.Eng. in any of the engineering or physics
  • Relevant technical professional certification.
  • NYSC discharge certificate 
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in maintenance engineering role.

Skills and competence requirement

  • Understanding electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating and electronic systems
  • Troubleshooting problems on various types of equipment
  • Understanding how to read blueprints and system schematics
  • Knowing equipment safety systems and processes
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an eye for detail 
  • Analytical mind. 
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read system schematics.
  • Understanding of safety and equipment procedures.

Abilities

  • Manual Dexterity
  • Ability to stand, stoop, squat and kneel for long periods of time, 
  • Lift, push and pull large machine parts or machines as needed
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and heating systems.
  • Ability to work with heavy equipment.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA guidelines and standards
  • Understand how to handle and dispose of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
