Job Description

  • Our school is entering an exciting phase of development and growth and we seek an ambitious and passionate Head of Early Years and Primary who wants to be part of a professionally dynamic and forward thinking learning community.
  • This important and exciting role will oversee all aspects of the school’s Early Years and Primary provision.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong vision for quality and enthusiasm to build a new concept, based on proven research into developing young children’s intelligence and embedding creativity, physical and social development and confidence across all areas of learning.
  • The Head of Early Years and Primary will be responsible for the smooth running of the school, the academic achievement of its pupils in Early Years and Primary, and the management of its staff.
  • He or she will manage relationships with the parents and ensure the school’s policies; procedures and ethos are implemented for the strategic vision and quality of pupil experience.
  • At our school, we put pupil value at the centre of all that we do. We have a Director of Learning who supports curriculum development and assessment; subject leadership and developing the quality of teaching and learning within our staff team.
  • As a successful member of our school team, you will work directly with our Curriculum Director.

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning Leadership:

  • Take responsibility for the routine day to day management and functioning of the School, including the deployment of staff to various duties
  • Oversees planning and implementation for outstanding Early Years and Primary provisions.
  • Develop and review Learning Environments in line with best practices.
  • Facilitate training and monitor learning and teaching.
  • Maintain a teaching timetable (approximately 40%) commensurate with other responsibilities.
  • Co-ordinate logistics for various school functions, including Primary School Assembly, Open Days, and Parent meetings. Lead parent workshops, induction meetings, and extracurricular activities.
  • Manage health and safety arrangements and uphold exemplary Safeguarding practices
  • Direct line management of Early Years, KS1 and KS2 Coordinators
  • Oversees the planning, co-ordination and administration of the School homework and absence policies
  • Oversee pupil assessment and the monitoring of academic standards.
  • Provide guidance and support to Early Years and Primary Staff in implementing schemes of work and ensure that statutory and school policies are being met.
  • Ensure the successful implementation of the Early Years and Primary programmes are in line with curriculum specification
  • Recruit for, and plan the careful induction of new staff
  • Ensure that the whole School atmosphere is welcoming and that parents are encouraged to take an active part in the life of the school and their child’s education.

Strategic Development:

  • Ability to take a lead role in working with the Board of Directors to develop a collaborative vision for the school, which embraces excellence and high standards
  • Ability to translate our vision into an ambitious development plan and implement it robustly and successfully
  • Experience of pre-emptive, proactive management and capacity for creative thinking and problem solving
  • Be proactive in promoting the school, making good use of all available communication channels.
  • Ability to establish, lead, and develop a high performing team, with a culture striving high expectations and continuous improvement
  • Demonstrating a strategic leadership style that is characterised by courage, integrity, creativity and resilience
  • Have a clear understanding of, and commitment to, promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children, with up-to-date knowledge and understanding of legislation and good practices.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Excellent understanding and experience of monitoring, use of data and the effective assessment of teaching and learning to drive improved performance and achievement
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of EYFS, KS1 and KS2 phases
  • Record of delivering a rich and creative curriculum, accessible to all children, with an understanding of how they learn best
  • Excellent understanding and experience of securing highly positive behaviour and attitudes.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from a good University plus a post-graduate qualification in education; Ideally a Master’s Degree in Educational Management.

Experience:

  • Have at least 10 years of successful teaching and Primary School leadership experience in British curriculum international schools
  • Experience of working with and involving school Board of Directors
  • The candidate must be between 40 – 45 years
  • Have a thorough knowledge of EYFS and Primary English National Curriculum
  • Proven record of strong sustained successful senior leadership as a Head Teacher/Deputy Head teacher in a primary school
  • Experience of successfully leading an effective whole school improvement project which has impacted positively on pupil attainment and on teaching and learn.

Personal Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to listen to, understand and work effectively with all children, staff and parents
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft office tool (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Holding and articulating clear and ambitious vision, values and moral purpose, demonstrating optimistic personal behaviour, and positive relationships and attitudes
  • Able to quickly form strong, positive working relationships with staff, parents and carers, pupils, management, Local Authority, and the wider community and work collaboratively for optimal outcomes
  • Implementing, managing and evaluating change in a creative and collaborative way
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of current educational policy, research and landscape
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, including the ability to delegate with clarity, multi-task and work to deadline
  • Awareness of own strengths and areas for development, and demonstrable record of promoting continuous professional development
  • Good sense of humour and a genuine passion for our school community
  • An approachable, active listener, who welcomes constructive feedback as an opportunity to support further improvement both personally, across their leadership team and the whole school
