• The strategic responsibilities of a warehouse manager typically involve long-term planning, goal-setting, and decision-making aimed at optimizing warehouse operations and contributing to the overall success of the organization. Here are some key strategic responsibilities:
• Optimizing Warehouse Layout and Design: Assessing and optimizing the layout and design of the warehouse to improve efficiency in receiving, storing, and shipping processes.
• This may involve reconfiguring storage space, implementing automation technologies, or redesigning workflows to minimize travel time and maximize throughput.
• Inventory Management and Demand Forecasting: Developing and implementing strategies for effective inventory management, including accurate forecasting of demand, optimizing stocking levels, and minimizing excess or obsolete inventory. This may involve leveraging technology such as inventory management software and implementing just-in-time inventory practices to reduce carrying costs.
• Supplier and Vendor Management: Establishing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and products. This may involve negotiating contracts, evaluating supplier performance, and implementing strategies to mitigate risks such as supply chain disruptions or quality issues.
• Process Improvement and Continuous Improvement: Identifying opportunities for process improvement within the warehouse operations and implementing initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality. This may involve conducting regular process audits, soliciting feedback from warehouse staff, and benchmarking against industry best practices.
• Technology Adoption and Innovation: Keeping abreast of advancements in warehouse management technology and evaluating their potential impact on operations. This may involve implementing new technologies such as warehouse management systems (WMS), RFID tracking, or autonomous vehicles to streamline processes and improve accuracy.
• Talent Development and Succession Planning: Developing and implementing strategies for talent development and succession planning within the warehouse team. This may involve providing training and professional development opportunities for warehouse staff, identifying high-potential employees for leadership roles, and ensuring continuity of leadership through effective succession planning.
• Health, Safety, and Compliance: Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and implementing strategies to maintain a safe working environment within the warehouse. This may involve conducting regular safety audits, providing safety training for warehouse staff, and implementing policies and procedures to mitigate risks of accidents or injuries.
• Customer Service and Satisfaction: Collaborating with admin, E-commerce and sales teams to ensure timely and accurate order fulfilment and delivery. This may involve implementing strategies to improve order accuracy, reduce lead times, and enhance overall customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Business or any related discipline. Supply Chain Management Certification is an added advantage.
• A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar retail management role within a structured corporate environment.
• Knowledgeable in warehouse and distribution information management processes and system (Knowledge of ERP software would be a strong advantage)
• Experience in managing a wide range of product department and segments in the warehouse
• Knowledgeable in retail operations cycles-stores, warehouse, logistics, distribution and customers complaints.
• Proficient with the use of Microsoft office applications especially Microsoft Excel.
• Must be physically fit and able to stand (and bend) for long periods.
