KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Team Leadership (Supervisory): Lead and supervise junior associates, delegating tasks and ensuring the quality and accuracy of their work products.
- Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique IP needs, and providing personalized legal solutions. Act as a trusted advisor and handle client inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
- Intellectual Property Advisory: Provide comprehensive legal advice and counsel to clients on various aspects of intellectual property.
- IP Strategy Development: Collaborate with clients to develop proactive IP strategies aligned with their business goals. Conduct research and analysis to identify potential IP risks, opportunities, and competitive advantages.
- IP Portfolio Management: Manage clients’ IP portfolios, including conducting IP audits, drafting and reviewing IP-related agreements and contracts, monitoring IP registrations and renewals, and tracking IP filings and prosecution.
- IP Enforcement and Litigation: Assist in resolving IP disputes by conducting legal research, drafting cease and desist letters, preparing pleadings, assisting in negotiations, and providing support during IP litigation proceedings.
- Due Diligence and Transactions: Conduct IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing agreements. Draft and negotiate IP-related contracts, licenses, and assignments.
- Legal Research and Analysis: Stay updated with the latest developments in IP laws and regulations. Conduct legal research, analyze case law, and prepare legal opinions and memoranda on complex IP issues.
- Transactions Management: Manage and guide junior associates in client meetings and calls, ensuring accurate documentation and follow-up on action items.
- Project Management: Supervise significant legal matters, ensuring that all deliverables are of high quality and deadlines are met. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, both internally and externally, to execute complex projects and transactions and ensure project budgets and timelines are aligned.
- Business Development: Assisting partners in business development efforts, including attending industry events, managing client relationships, and contributing to the preparation of proposals.
- Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents, contracts, and agreements, ensuring optimal terms and compliance with applicable laws.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other team members, including associates, paralegals, and partners, to provide comprehensive legal services to clients. Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members, assisting in their professional development.
- Industry Knowledge: Stay updated on evolving laws, regulations, and industry trends within the IP space, and provide guidance and training to colleagues and clients accordingly.
- Thought Leadership: Be actively involved with publishing articles, delivering presentations, and participating in conferences to enhance the firm’s reputation and position as a thought leader in the field.
- Risk Management and Compliance: Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards related to IP activities.
JOB EXPERIENCE
Qualification / Skills Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB or JD) from an accredited institution and active bar membership. Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years post-call experience in intellectual property law, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Strong knowledge of intellectual property laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiating IP agreements, conducting IP due diligence, and handling IP litigation matters.
- Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and technology.
- Proven track record of leading and mentoring junior associates, providing guidance and fostering professional growth.
- Ability to provide accurate, precise, and strategic legal advice.
