  • A Hotel Quality Facility Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining the physical infrastructure of a hotel property to ensure the comfort, safety, and satisfaction of guests and staff. By overseeing maintenance, repairs, inspections, and safety compliance, this role contributes to the overall quality and reputation of the hotel.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all building systems and equipment including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and security systems. Respond promptly to guest requests and maintenance emergencies to minimize downtime and ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Inspections and Assessments: Conduct regular inspections and assessments of facility systems and equipment to identify issues, defects, or potential hazards. Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to prolong the life of equipment and minimize the risk of failures.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and service providers for specialized repairs, installations, or upgrades. Obtain quotes, negotiate contracts, and oversee the work performed by third-party vendors to ensure quality and compliance with hotel standards.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards governing building operations and maintenance. Implement safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks to guests, staff, and property.
  • Energy Management: Monitor energy consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives to reduce operating costs and environmental impact. Identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and recommend upgrades or retrofits to optimize building performance.
  • Budget Management: Assist in the development of annual operating budgets for facility maintenance and capital expenditures. Monitor expenses, track costs, and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or guest satisfaction.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and guidance to maintenance staff on proper equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols. Foster a culture of continuous learning and development to enhance the skills and knowledge of the facility maintenance team.
  • Emergency Response: Act as a primary point of contact for emergency situations such as power outages, equipment failures, or natural disasters. Develop and implement contingency plans to ensure the safety and well-being of guests and staff during emergencies.
  • Efficiently manage a preventive maintenance and repair program for the hotel.
  • Protect the hotel property from fires and look after other aspects of security.
  • Operate an effective energy-conservative program.
  • Participate in and supervise new projects developed for the hotel.
  • Operate the department with minimal cost but maintaining high-quality standards.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in facility maintenance, preferably in a hospitality or hotel environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be computer literate, a team player; flexible, not easily provoked, highly sensitive and security conscious, customer-centric, and always hungry for and able to deliver timely results.
