Responsibilities
- Identify and manage group legal risks
- Provide legal advice on the company’s transaction and other matters concerning the company
- Manage the group companies’ relationships with external solicitors and ensure that the group is properly represented in all litigations concerning it
- Provide statutory Company Secretarial services and act as Secretary to the Board of Directors and all standing committees of the group
- Provide advice on, interpret and communicate all legal issues, opinions, laws, rules, guidelines statutes, especially as regards Group businesses, to staff and management
- Provide a firm but fair opinion on all legal matters to the company
- Review, and draft MOUs, legal agreements, and security documentation between the group and external parties: and among the individual companies in the group
- Liaise with legal departments of external organizations
- Liaise with government agencies for the smooth running of the group (such as filing of papers at CAC. etc).
- Continuously monitor compliance with statutory obligations and advise management accordingly.
- Mentor Staff of the legal department
Experience:
- At least 4 years of legal experience ideally in a leading organization, with a proven track record in contract negotiation and drafting.
- Proven track record of providing accurate and effective legal counsel
- Proven track record of adding value to an organization by developing comprehensive contract documents that mitigate risk and penalties.
Knowledge:
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Sound knowledge of Employment and Labor Law practice
- Commercial Law Practice and Company Secretarial experience
- Debt recovery experience is essential
- Sound knowledge of Human resource management
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office suite- especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Education:
- A graduate degree in law (minimum of second class lower).
- Member of the Nigerian Bar Association.
- LLM, CIPM / CIPD/SHRM/PHR is an additional advantage
Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory law; and
- Knowledge of the legal aspects of capital markets.
- Strong leadership and managerial skills;
- Excellent relationship management and communication skills necessary for interaction with the
- Government of Nigeria, the Judicial system, and negotiating parties;
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and experience with, laws dealing with government and/or commercial contract administration, particularly contract negotiation, preparation, and administration;
- Ability to provide independent advice (orally and in writing) to senior-level management on highly technical matters;
- Demonstrate success in managing and conducting a variety of litigation matters;
- Good planning and organization skills; and proven ability to delicately solve sensitive matters.
