Key Responsibilities
Financial Record Keeping:

  • Maintain detailed and accurate financial records, including invoices, receipts, and payment vouchers.
  • Update and manage accounting ledgers and databases.

Transaction Processing:

  • Process incoming and outgoing payments related to clearing services, ensuring timely transactions.
  • Handle cash, cheques, and electronic payments, ensuring all transactions are recorded properly.

Reconciliation:

  • Conduct regular reconciliations of bank statements, ensuring that all discrepancies are investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable to maintain accurate financial statements.

Reporting:

  • Prepare periodic financial reports, including profit and loss statements and cash flow forecasts, for management review.
  • Assist in budget preparation and financial analysis.

Communication:

  • Liaise with clients, banks, and regulatory bodies to resolve issues related to payments and accounts.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding account statuses and transactions.

Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with local financial regulations, tax obligations, and internal policies.
  • Assist with audits by providing necessary documentation and reports.

Support to Senior Accountants:

  • Provide administrative support to senior accountants and finance managers in various financial tasks.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is often required.
  • Experience: Previous experience in an accounting or finance role, especially in the clearing or logistics sector, is advantageous.

Required Skills:

  • Attention to Detail: Precision is critical in handling financial data and transactions.
  • Proficiency in Accounting Software: Familiarity with software like Tally, QuickBooks, or local accounting solutions.
  • Basic Understanding of Nigerian Financial Regulations: Knowledge of relevant laws and tax regulations, such as VAT and other compliance requirements.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and stakeholders.
