Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Steward/Kitchen Assistant to assist with the smooth operation of our kitchen. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation in the kitchen, as well as supporting the kitchen staff with basic food preparation and other duties. This role is vital to ensuring the kitchen runs efficiently and adheres to all food safety and sanitation regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, ensuring that all areas, including floors, work surfaces, and equipment, are sanitised and clean at all times.
  • Wash, dry, and properly store kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and dishes used by the kitchen and service teams.
  • Operate and maintain dishwashing equipment, ensuring all items are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised.
  • Dispose of kitchen waste properly, including the separation of recyclables and food waste, and ensure garbage bins are emptied and cleaned regularly.
  • Assist kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks such as peeling, chopping, and preparing ingredients as required.
  • Assist in receiving and organizing deliveries, ensuring that all items are stored correctly and rotated following the first in, first out method.
  • Monitor and report any maintenance or repair needs for kitchen equipment and ensure that they are promptly addressed.
  • Help with setting up and breaking down kitchen stations, ensuring all items are in place and ready for service.
  • Support the kitchen team during busy periods by ensuring supplies are replenished and kitchen stations are stocked.
  • Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations, including wearing appropriate kitchen attire and handling food safely.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward, Kitchen Assistant, or Dishwasher in a hospitality or food service environment is an advantage but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and perform physically demanding tasks, including standing for long periods and lifting heavy objects.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

Preferred Skills:

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • A proactive and team-oriented attitude.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines.

Working Conditions:

  • This role involves working in a hot, busy kitchen environment with exposure to cleaning chemicals, heat, and noise.
  • Physical stamina is required as the job may involve lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
