Overview

  • The Tobacco Policy Action Fund for Africa (TOPAFA) is dedicated to advancing tobacco control initiatives across Africa by supporting governments and award recipients in implementing critical tobacco control policies. We are seeking a Program Management Intern to join our team. 
  • This internship provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the coordination, planning, and execution of TOPAFA-funded tobacco control technical assistance programs.
  • The intern will assist in the day-to-day clerical and secretarial tasks that ensure the adequacy of TOPAFA support for smooth implementation of key policy areas, including 100% smoke-free law provisions, graphic health warnings on tobacco product packaging, and regulations on tobacco advertisement, promotion, and sponsorship in Nigeria.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Program Manager and team in coordinating technical assistance to government entities and award recipients for tobacco control policy implementation.
  • Assist in scheduling and organizing meetings, training sessions, and workshops with stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of program activities, including attendance, minutes, and action items.
  • Prepare and distribute internal and external correspondence, reports, and documentation related to tobacco control initiatives implemented in Nigeria.
  • Track progress and follow up on deadlines for specific tobacco control interventions, particularly in areas of smoke-free law provisions and tobacco advertising regulations.
  • Assist in compiling data and reports for monitoring and evaluation of the grants program activities.
  • Support the development and dissemination of advocacy and informational materials for tobacco control initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Public Health, Social Sciences, International Development, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Interest in public health, tobacco control, and policy implementation.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience with event coordination and project management is a plus.
